Welcome!

My name is Rachel Stenbuck and I am a native of Cary, North Carolina.  I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Voice, and a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Meredith College.  I have been teaching music in the Raleigh area for over 20 years, and have performed in various church and public venues.  During my graduate studies I performed as the mezzo soloist in the Meredith College Chorale performance of Mozart’s Requiem.  I sing with North Carolina Opera in the chorus and comprimario roles, including the company’s 2010 inaugural production of Tosca (Shepherd), and more recently, Rigoletto (Page), the 2019 reprise of Tosca (Shepherd), and Die Zauberflöte (3rd Spirit). As a part of the International Young Artists Project, I have performed the roles of Second Lady (Die Zauberflöte) in Varna, Bulgaria, and La Principessa (Suor Angelica) in Sansepolcro, Italy.

In addition to my music studio and singing with NCO, I teach voice in the music department at Meredith College and am the Education and Outreach Coordinator for NC Opera

It’s never too late, nor too early to learn music!  I offer music lessons starting as early as age 5 up through adults.  Private, weekly lessons are available for flute and voice (both classical and musical theater), as well as general music theory and appreciation.  Lessons are tailored to the needs and goals of the student.  Two recitals are offered each year, one in the fall and one in the spring semesters.  Students are strongly encouraged to participate in the recitals, as well as various music festivals and competitions.

Testimonials

"I highly recommend voice lessons with Rachel Stenbuck.  My daughter came to Rachel with a basic knowledge of voice and with her teaching raised it to another level.  My daughter's voice has grown and matured so much working with Rachel.  Even with COVID and lessons moving online, Rachel found ways to keep teaching quality lessons and helped my daughter reach nationals with NATS last year."

- Jennifer Hartsoe, parent

“I have grown immensely in the time I’ve worked with Ms. Stenbuck! Her teaching has given me the opportunity to succeed with my voice and grow as a performer.”

- Emily Hartsoe, student

'... I also wanted to thank you for everything I've learned this past year, both as a vocal student and a person. I'll always remember your wild stories and creative metaphors, and I greatly appreciate the lengths you went to help me improve as both a singer and a performer. Thank you also for always making your studio a cheerful, welcoming place to learn; whether virtually or in person, your enthusiasm for music and dedication to your students could not be clearer. Wherever my musical journey leads next, I'm grateful to have had you as a teacher along the way."

- Luna Hou, former student
